Nuno Espirito Santo, the manager of Nottingham Forest, expressed disappointment after his team’s 2-2 draw against Wolves, describing it as “a missed opportunity” to secure a crucial three points in their bid to avoid relegation from the Premier League.
Forest took the lead twice in the match, with goals from Morgan Gibbs-White and Danilo putting them ahead after Matheus Cunha’s stunning solo effort had initially given Wolves the lead. However, Cunha struck again in the second half to salvage a point for Wolves, leaving Forest just one point above the relegation zone.
“We were the better team today and should have won the game,” said Nuno after the match. Despite dominating large parts of the game, Forest’s defensive lapses allowed Wolves to snatch a draw.
Cunha’s brilliant goal, where he dribbled from inside his own half to score, was a highlight of the match. However, Gibbs-White’s equalizer just before halftime and Danilo’s strike in the second half seemed to have put Forest on course for victory before Cunha struck again.
Forest’s failure to hold onto their lead reflects a broader trend, as they have now dropped 50 Premier League points from winning positions since the start of last season.
Meanwhile, Wolves, who have been impressive under manager Gary O’Neil, have now gone four league games without a win. Despite their solid campaign overall, their recent dip in form is a cause for concern.
