Nosa Adams: Why Edo Voters Should Unite Behind APC

Mr. Nosa Adams, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a member of Senator Monday Okpebholo’s campaign council, has expressed confidence in the party’s chances in the upcoming Edo State governorship election. Adams, a former chairman of Egor Local Government Area and a former member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Legacy Group, criticized Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration and called for unity against the PDP’s candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo.

Adams stated that the APC’s prospects are “very bright” due to widespread dissatisfaction with Obaseki’s performance. He highlighted that key political and social groups in Edo, including political leaders, traditional institutions, and civil servants, have all resolved to support the APC candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo. Adams argued that Governor Obaseki had failed the people, noting that voters are eager for a change.

Regarding Okpebholo’s qualifications, Adams dismissed claims that the APC candidate is not well-educated. He defended Okpebholo’s academic background, pointing out that he holds a first degree, a Master’s degree, and has substantial experience as an ICT expert and entrepreneur. “It’s just political propaganda and gimmicks,” Adams remarked.

Responding to allegations that the APC is relying on federal might, INEC, and security agencies to win the election, Adams called such claims “baseless,” emphasizing that law enforcement is acting within its constitutional duties. He also accused Obaseki’s administration of using state security networks to intimidate political opponents, citing incidents of violence.

Adams further dismissed the PDP’s refusal to sign a peace accord for the election, suggesting it reflects their unwillingness to commit to peaceful conduct. He also downplayed the threat posed by Labour Party’s candidate, Olumide Akpata, citing the internal divisions within the Labour Party and the regional dynamics of Edo politics. Adams emphasized that there is a strong consensus for the governorship to shift to Edo Central, which Okpebholo represents, adding that Edo voters desire a local leader who understands their needs and aspirations.

With APC’s Okpebholo and his running mate, Dennis Idahosa, Adams expressed optimism that the party is positioned for victory, emphasizing the growing support for their candidacy across Edo State.
