Northern Governors Commit to Tackling Insecurity

The Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing the ongoing insecurity in the region. The forum’s chairman and Governor of Gombe State, Inuwa Yahaya, made this declaration on Monday in Gombe while receiving a detailed report on the matter from the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG). The report was prepared by the CNG’s Experts’ Committee on insecurity in Northern Nigeria.

Governor Yahaya emphasized the severe impact that insecurity has had on millions of Nigerians, particularly in the North, and reiterated the collective determination of northern governors to partner with key stakeholders to find effective solutions. He announced plans to convene a comprehensive stakeholders’ meeting, which will include past and present leaders, traditional rulers, security chiefs, and civil society organizations, to discuss and implement strategies for restoring peace to the region.

“This time around, we want to take a collective approach to the insecurity issue,” Yahaya stated. He commended the CNG for their thorough analysis and actionable recommendations in the report, which will be carefully studied and implemented.

Bashir Ibrahim, leader of the CNG delegation and Chairman of the Committee of Experts, highlighted the necessity of an “all-society” approach to combating insecurity. He stressed that every citizen has a role to play, as insecurity affects everyone indiscriminately.
