Nollywood has been plunged into mourning following the passing of veteran actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, at the age of 62. The beloved comedian, renowned for his comic roles, breathed his last at Evercare Hospital after battling health issues.
The news of Mr Ibu’s demise was confirmed by Emeka Rollas, the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), who expressed deep sorrow over the loss. According to reports, Mr Ibu suffered a cardiac arrest, devastating his fans and colleagues across the industry.
Mr Ibu’s journey in Nollywood was marked by numerous iconic roles that endeared him to audiences far and wide. His unique comedic talent brought joy and laughter to countless viewers, making him a beloved figure in Nigerian cinema.
The late actor’s health struggles began in October 2023, leading to multiple surgeries and the amputation of his leg. Despite his challenges, Mr Ibu remained resilient, with updates from his family in November suggesting signs of recovery.
However, his passing comes as a shock to many, further compounded by the recent loss of another Nollywood veteran, Quadri Oyebamiji, also known as Sisi Quadri.
