Chinedu Omorie, a renowned Nollywood director and filmmaker, has reaffirmed his dedication to utilizing filmmaking as a vehicle for social change. Known for his collaborations with notable actors such as Nse Ikpe Etim, Bimbo Akintola, Zack Orji, and Femi Jacobs, Omorie has directed a range of impactful projects, including Silver Town, The Anomalous, and Aminata.
In a recent discussion, Omorie highlighted the importance of creating films that transcend mere entertainment, focusing on delivering meaningful narratives with a message. “One of my motivations in filmmaking is the desire to use it as a tool for social change. That is also very key for me. I want to tell stories that have substance. I just don’t want to entertain people; I want to preach about something,” he explained.
Omorie has consistently taken on projects that address real-world issues, ensuring his work reflects a commitment to societal progress. “In most cases, I find myself doing projects that have a voice. It must not be only for entertainment; it must have a strong element that addresses an issue in our world and how it can be taken care of,” he said, adding that this principle guides his choice of scripts and stories.
The director also spoke about the significance of trust between directors and actors, particularly during emotionally demanding scenes. “Actors must be able to trust directors. They can be vulnerable, and their vulnerability will not be misconstrued,” Omorie stressed, emphasizing the need for a safe creative environment where actors can confidently express themselves.
