The immediate past Governor of Benue State, Chief Samuel Ortom, has dismissed claims of factionalism within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), affirming that the Umar Damagum-led National Working Committee (NWC) is the legitimate leadership of the party.
Speaking during a meeting with members of the newly elected Benue State Working Committee (SWC) of the PDP at his residence in Makurdi, Ortom emphasized the importance of unity and support for the party’s leadership. He noted that the Damagum-led NWC has performed admirably despite the challenges facing the PDP and should be commended, not criticized.
“There is no faction in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and we remain committed to equity, fairness, and justice. We support the Damagun-led National Working Committee. They have done their best in the midst of the challenges we have in the PDP,” Ortom said.
He further urged members of the party to channel any grievances through established organs such as the Board of Trustees (BOT), Governors’ Forum, and National Executive Committee (NEC), instead of publicly castigating the leadership.
Ortom’s remarks were echoed by Benue State PDP Chairman, Chief Adaji, who praised the former governor for his efforts in revitalizing the party. Adaji also outlined the SWC’s plans to rebuild the party and secure victories in future elections, reaffirming the committee’s commitment to the party’s success.
