NNPC Chief Assures Completion of AKK Gas Pipeline by Early 2025

The Group Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), Mele Kyari, has assured Nigerians that the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline project will be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2025. This commitment was made during a site visit by three cabinet ministers to inspect the River Kaduna crossing milestone of the project on Friday.

In a statement shared on NNPC’s X account by Chief Corporate Communications Officer Olufemi Soneye, Kyari confirmed significant progress on the project. “Without promising too much, we assure you that this project will be delivered on schedule. Our mission is to work towards delivering it by December this year. But we are confident this project will be delivered by the first quarter of 2025,” Kyari said.

The visiting ministers included the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun; the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mr. Mohammed Idris; and the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo.

Minister Edun highlighted the AKK gas pipeline’s importance, calling it the “pipeline of prosperity” critical to Nigeria’s economic growth and industrialization. He emphasized that the project aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s vision of bringing prosperity to Nigerians.

Mr. Idris echoed these sentiments, describing the project as evidence of the Federal Government’s “Decade of Gas” initiative taking shape. “Nigerians should be proud of the AKK Gas Pipeline project. With the delivery of this project, the prosperity that Mr. President is always talking about is unraveling right here before our eyes,” he stated.

Minister Ekpo underscored the project’s role in harnessing Nigeria’s abundant gas resources to improve power generation, revive industries, and create employment opportunities. He called on all stakeholders to support NNPC and its partner, Brentex/CPP Ltd., to ensure the project’s successful completion.

The ministers praised NNPC and Brentex/CPP Ltd. for the progress made and expressed confidence that the project would be completed as scheduled.

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Hadiza Balarabe, also expressed excitement about the project’s impact on the local economy. “The completion of the AKK gas pipeline will herald the much-needed economic and industrial revival in the state,” she said, noting its potential to rejuvenate the Kakuri Industrial Area and its factories.
