Nnamdi Kanu’s Lawyer Sues Oraifite Union President for Defamation, Demands ₦50 Billion

Ifeanyi Ejiofor, the legal representative of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB), has taken legal action against Mr. Vincent Dike, the President-General of the Oraifite Improvement Union in Anambra State. Ejiofor filed a lawsuit in the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja, seeking ₦50 billion in damages for defamation.

In the suit with number CV/1224/24, Ejiofor alleges that Dike made defamatory statements against him during a press conference held on February 4, 2024, where Dike addressed members of the Oraifite community, including the monarch. Ejiofor asserts that Dike’s remarks were false, injurious, and widely circulated among his professional colleagues, friends, clients, and family members.

Despite serving notice for the immediate retraction of the defamatory publications, Dike allegedly failed to retract his statements, prompting Ejiofor to pursue legal recourse. Among the reliefs sought by Ejiofor are a full retraction of the offending publications in three national newspapers, an unambiguous apology published in the same newspapers, and an undertaking from Dike to refrain from future defamatory publications.

Additionally, Ejiofor seeks ₦50 billion in general damages and ₦100 million as the cost of the suit. The lawsuit was signed by Chinwe Umeche, Esq., the Head of Chambers/Managing Partner at I.C. Ejiofor – Ugochinyere Chambers.

As of now, the suit has not been scheduled for a hearing, awaiting further legal proceedings.
