The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast thundery and rainy weather conditions across the country from Monday to Wednesday. According to NiMet’s weather outlook released on Sunday, morning thunderstorms are expected on Monday in parts of Kebbi, Katsina, Borno, Bauchi, and Taraba states, with further thunderstorms anticipated in Zamfara, Taraba, Bauchi, and Kebbi later in the day.
Moderate rains are predicted for parts of Nassarwa, Benue, the Federal Capital Territory, and Niger during the morning, transitioning to moderate thunderstorms and light rains in the afternoon and evening over Niger, the Federal Capital Territory, Nassarawa, Kogi, and Plateau states. Additionally, rains are forecasted for Cross River and Akwa Ibom in the morning, with light to moderate rains expected later in the day over Ebonyi, Imo, Abia, Anambra, Oyo, Ogun, Cross River, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Delta.
On Tuesday, morning thunderstorms are predicted for Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara, with afternoon and evening thunderstorms in Bauchi, Taraba, Zamfara, and Kebbi. Moderate rains are anticipated over Niger and Kwara in the morning, followed by thunderstorms and rains in Plateau, Nassarawa, Benue, and Kogi later in the day. The southern region will see cloudy skies in the morning with intermittent rains in Ebonyi, Abia, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom in the afternoon and evening.
Wednesday’s forecast includes morning thunderstorms in Sokoto, Borno, Katsina, and Kebbi, with afternoon and evening thunderstorms in Taraba, Kano, Kaduna, and Zamfara. The North Central region will experience cloudy conditions in the morning, with thunderstorms anticipated as the day progresses, and cloudy skies in the southern region during the morning.
NiMet has warned of strong winds preceding rains in areas with likely thunderstorms and highlighted the high likelihood of urban flooding in major cities due to heavy downpours. Residents are advised to avoid flood-prone areas and adhere to safety advisories. The public and airline operators are encouraged to stay informed through weather updates from NiMet and plan their activities accordingly.
