NiMet Predicts Three-Day Thunderstorms and Rains Across Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted thunderstorms and rain showers across various parts of Nigeria from Friday through Sunday. The weather outlook, released on Thursday, indicates that parts of the country, including Borno, Yobe, Kaduna, and Bauchi States, will experience thunderstorms as early as Friday morning.

Later in the day, the agency predicts that Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, and other northern states will also witness thunderstorms. The Federal Capital Territory, Niger, and Nasarawa States are expected to experience similar weather conditions, with heavy rains anticipated over states such as Abia, Imo, Oyo, and Delta.

On Saturday, NiMet forecasts that Sokoto, Katsina, Kano, and Taraba will experience thunderstorms both in the morning and later in the day. Southern regions, including Osun, Edo, and Lagos, are also expected to see continuous rain throughout the day.

For Sunday, isolated thunderstorms are predicted for Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara in the morning, with additional storms likely in the afternoon across states such as Yobe, Jigawa, and Kaduna. The North Central region will experience cloudy skies with some sunshine, while the South is expected to be predominantly cloudy with rain expected over parts of Ondo, Edo, and Delta.

NiMet cautioned residents, especially in major cities, to be vigilant as the heavy rains might lead to flooding. The agency also advised the public and airline operators to stay updated with the latest weather reports for effective planning and safety measures.
