NiMet Forecasts Thunderstorms and Rain Across Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather outlook predicting thunderstorms and rainy conditions across the country from Tuesday to Thursday.

Tuesday’s Forecast:

  • Northern Region: Thunderstorms are expected in Bauchi, Kebbi, Taraba, Kano, Katsina, Adamawa, and Kaduna states during the morning. Later in the day, thunderstorms are forecasted over the entire region.
  • North Central: Thunderstorms are anticipated in Kogi, Benue, Plateau, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nasarawa, and Niger states in the morning, extending to Kwara, Niger, Kogi, Plateau, Benue, and Nasarawa states later.
  • Southern Region: Moderate rains are expected in Ebonyi, Imo, Enugu, Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, Rivers, and Bayelsa states during the morning, with intermittent rains throughout the day.

Wednesday’s Forecast:

  • Northern Region: Thunderstorms are predicted in Taraba, Adamawa, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Katsina, Kano, and Kaduna states in the morning, and in Borno, Gombe, Adamawa, Taraba, Kano, Katsina, and Kebbi states later.
  • North Central: Thunderstorms are expected in the FCT, Kogi, Niger, and Kwara states during the morning, and in Nasarawa, Kogi, FCT, Kwara, and Niger states later in the day.
  • Southern Region: Thunderstorms are forecasted in Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ondo, Ekiti, Enugu, Imo, Edo, Cross River, Delta, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa states during the morning, with widespread thunderstorms expected later.

Thursday’s Forecast:

  • Northern Region: Thunderstorms are anticipated in Sokoto, Kebbi, Taraba, and Adamawa states in the morning. Later, thunderstorms are expected in Borno, Bauchi, Kaduna, Taraba, and Adamawa states, as well as Nasarawa and the FCT.
  • Southern Region: Isolated thunderstorms are expected in Osun, Edo, Ondo, Ekiti, Delta, Lagos, Rivers, and Bayelsa states during the morning.

NiMet advises residents to avoid flood-prone areas due to the high likelihood of urban flooding. Precautions should be taken as strong winds might accompany the thunderstorms. Public and airline operators are urged to stay updated through NiMet for effective planning.
