Nigeria’s Burna Boy, Asake, and Rema Miss Out at Brit Awards 2024

Nigeria’s representation at the Brit Awards 2024 faced disappointment as Burna Boy, Asake, and Rema failed to secure awards at the prestigious music ceremony held at London’s O2 Arena on Saturday night.

Burna Boy and Asake were nominated in the Best International Act of the Year category but were edged out by American star SZA. Similarly, Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ lost the award for the Best International Song of the Year to Miley Cyrus’ ‘Flowers.’

Despite the setback, Rema showcased resilience by concluding the ceremony with an electrifying performance of his hit song ‘Calm Down.’ This performance marked him as the second African artiste to grace the BRITs stage, following Burna Boy’s appearance in 2019.

Raye emerged as a notable winner, extending her record as the artist with the most wins in one year in BRITs history. While Nigeria’s artists may not have clinched awards this year, their presence and performances contribute to the global recognition of African talent on the international stage.
