Wasiu Alabi, better known as Pasuma in the Nigerian music scene, recently shared a pivotal moment that steered him towards his illustrious career in Fuji music.
In a candid interview with Iyabo Ojo, Pasuma opened up about a significant setback in his football aspirations that ultimately paved the way for his legendary journey in the music industry. Reflecting on his past, Pasuma recounted his dashed dreams of representing Nigeria in the 1985 FIFA U-16 World Championship in China.
The renowned musician revealed that despite his ambitions on the football field, he was not selected for the national team, which served as a turning point in his life. Disheartened by the missed opportunity to don the Nigerian jersey, Pasuma redirected his passion and enthusiasm towards music.
“I was a footballer but I decided to go into music because I was not picked to go to Kodak for the World Cup,” he disclosed. “So I now said I want to be a musician straight. I was a footballer before.”
Raised in the vibrant neighborhood of Mushin in Lagos state, Pasuma drew inspiration from his role model, K1 de Ultimate, and embarked on his musical journey in 1984. In 1993, he marked his entry into the music scene with the release of his debut album, “Recognition.”
Since then, Pasuma has solidified his position as one of the most revered musicians in the Fuji genre, with a prolific career spanning over three decades and boasting more than 30 albums to his name.
