Nigerian Chief of Defence Staff Warns Against Calls for Coup, Affirms Commitment to Democracy

General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, has issued a stern warning to those advocating for a coup d’état in Nigeria, branding them as enemies of the nation and asserting that the law will hold them accountable.

Addressing reporters after inaugurating the main entrance of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, and Officers Transit Accommodation in Port Harcourt, General Musa emphasized the military’s unwavering commitment to protecting democracy in the country. He dismissed coup calls as detrimental to Nigeria’s progress, asserting that democracy fosters greater achievement and development.

General Musa emphasized, “Whoever is making that call (coup) does not love Nigeria. We want to make it very clear that the Armed Forces of Nigeria are here to protect democracy.”

Highlighting the challenges facing the nation, he urged patience and support for the government’s efforts to overcome obstacles and improve the economy. He underscored the importance of unity in defeating adversaries of the state, affirming that the Armed Forces stand ready to assist the government in promoting peace and development.
