Nigeria’s quest for a coveted Brit Award hit a roadblock as Burna Boy, Asake, and Rema failed to secure wins at the prestigious music ceremony held at London’s 02 Arena on Saturday night.
Burna Boy and Asake, nominated in the Best International Act of the Year category, lost out to American star SZA. Similarly, Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ missed the mark for the Best International Song of the Year, which was claimed by Miley Cyrus with ‘Flowers.’
Despite the setbacks, Rema left a lasting impression by concluding the ceremony with an electrifying performance of ‘Calm Down,’ becoming only the second African artist to grace the BRITs stage after Burna Boy’s performance in 2019.
On a triumphant note, British artist Raye made history with a remarkable six wins in a single year at the BRITs. She secured accolades for Best New Artist, Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Best R&B Act, and Songwriter of the Year, solidifying her position as a dominant force in this year’s awards.
