The Nigerian Army announced yesterday that its troops, engaged in counter-terrorism operations, have successfully neutralized eight terrorists and rescued 40 abducted individuals across various states. These coordinated efforts aim to tighten the grip on unrepentant terrorists and their collaborators in an ongoing bid to eradicate terrorism in the country.
In a statement, the Army highlighted a significant breakthrough involving the arrest of a notorious arms courier. During a stop-and-search operation along the Lafia-Keffi Road in Nasarawa State on September 28, 2024, troops apprehended the suspect and recovered 303 live rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition concealed in a bag. The suspect is currently in custody, with further investigations underway to locate his accomplices.
In Kaduna State, precision strikes were carried out in the forests near Danmari and Saulawa villages in Birnin Gwari LGA, resulting in the elimination of one terrorist. Additional operations in Ankwa village, Kachia LGA, led to the neutralization of two more terrorists, along with the recovery of a locally made firearm, 11 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and a motorcycle used by the criminals.
In Borno State, troops engaged fleeing terrorists in Faayijiwa Fandanari village, Magumeri LGA, and recovered two AK-47 rifles, 61 rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunition, 51 rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition, hard drugs, and other supplies.
