In a significant victory against insurgency, troops of the 1 Division of the Nigerian Army have successfully neutralized a notorious bandit kingpin known as Boderi, along with another kingpin named Bodejo, in a targeted ambush operation.
Maj-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, confirmed the operation, revealing that it took place along the Bada – Riyawa axis on the Kaduna – Birnin Gwari Road. In the encounter, six insurgents were neutralized, and a cache of weapons and ammunition was recovered, including 2 AK 47 rifles, 5 AK 47 rifle magazines, and 300 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition. Additionally, 19 motorcycles used by the insurgents were destroyed on site.
Notably, Boderi was implicated in several high-profile kidnappings, including the incidents involving the Yauri school girls, Greenfield University, and the Nigerian Defence Academy. The successful elimination of these key figures marks a significant blow to the criminal networks responsible for orchestrating such heinous acts.
In separate operations conducted in the Igabi, Giwa, and Birnin Gwari Local Government Areas of Kaduna State, troops continued to engage insurgents, resulting in the recovery of more firearms and ammunition. The ongoing efforts aim to flush out insurgents from these areas and restore peace to the affected communities.
During a patrol along the Maganda–Dausayi–Mugaba axis, troops encountered insurgents using rustled herds of cattle as shields. Despite the insurgents’ attempts to evade capture, the troops swiftly responded, neutralizing two insurgents and recovering firearms, ammunition, and other incriminating items.
