Nigeria to Digitalise 80% of Government Activities by 2025

The Federal Government of Nigeria announced plans on Monday to digitalise 80 percent of government activities by 2025, as part of President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s efforts to modernise the public sector. The initiative aims to enhance efficiency, reduce corruption, improve transparency, and align Nigeria’s public sector with global best practices in e-governance.

During the opening of a digitalisation training programme for staff of the Office of the Vice-President, Senator Hassan Hadejia emphasised the urgency of transforming government operations using digital technologies. “If you don’t go digital, you get to a point where you will even fail to integrate with the rest of the world. Everybody is moving ahead, and you have to get to that level where you can at least get that connectivity,” Hadejia stated.

Hadejia stressed the importance of enforcing compliance across all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to ensure the initiative’s success. He highlighted the judiciary’s progress in digitalisation as an example, noting that the Supreme Court’s mandate for digital processes has driven significant advancements.

State House Permanent Secretary, Mr. Olusesan Adebiyi, revealed that the state house has set up a training centre to enhance worker efficiency and has procured 500 desktop computers for use. Adebiyi encouraged staff to embrace the new digital processes, stating, “We already have 500 newly acquired desktop computers manufactured and configured for use in the State House.” He assured that more training would be organised periodically to keep staff updated and productive.
