Nigeria Police Introduces Digital System to End Vehicle Paper Checks

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced the launch of the digital Central Motor Registry Information System (e-CMR), which will eliminate the need for officers to stop vehicles to check their documents. The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, shared the update via his X handle on Wednesday night.

With the introduction of e-CMR, police officers will now be able to verify vehicle documentation in real-time using advanced technology. This system allows vehicle owners to access all relevant information digitally, removing the need to carry physical documents.

Adejobi highlighted the efficiency of the new system, stating, “No more stopping to check papers—our officers are equipped with cutting-edge tech to verify documents in real-time.”

The e-CMR will also enhance vehicle security, allowing owners to flag stolen vehicles instantly through their online profile. Once flagged, officers across the country will be alerted within seconds, improving recovery chances.

The digital system was ordered by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) in July 2024 as part of efforts to modernize vehicle registration and strengthen Nigeria’s safety and security framework.
