Rapper Nicki Minaj has seemingly taken aim at Jay-Z after Kendrick Lamar was chosen to headline the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show, bypassing her former mentor and label boss, Lil Wayne. The National Football League, Apple Music, and Jay-Z’s Roc Nation recently announced Lamar as the headliner, sparking backlash from fans who believed Lil Wayne deserved the spot.
Minaj joined the conversation on social media, expressing her frustration in a series of posts on her X handle. She appeared to criticize Jay-Z, accusing him of sidelining Lil Wayne due to personal issues. “Denying a young black man what he rightfully put into this game for no other reason but your ego. Your hatred for Birdman, Drake & Nicki got you punishing Lil Wayne?! Lil Wayne! The GOAT! Nola, what’s good?!” she wrote.
Minaj also referenced past Super Bowl performances, noting how Eminem insisted on having 50 Cent perform alongside him, contrasting it with Wayne’s omission. She added, “Eminem stood firm on having 50Cent come out. A white man. Sh*t sad. House n*gger timz… No loyalty?”
Highlighting Lil Wayne’s legacy, Minaj emphasized his immense contributions to hip-hop, noting that he was responsible for launching the careers of both her and Drake.
