Nasarawa State Inaugurates 1,688 NYSC Members for 2024 Batch B Stream ‘I’

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) inaugurated 1,688 youth corps members from the 2024 Batch B Stream ‘I’ set for their year-long national service in Nasarawa State. The ceremony took place at the Magaji Dan-Yamusa NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Keffi local government area on Tuesday.

Governor Abdullahi Sule, represented by the state Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Ja’afaru Ango, officially opened the orientation course. He congratulated the corps members on completing their academic programs, which qualified them for the national service.

In his address, Governor Sule urged the corps members to engage fully with the three-week orientation course and adhere to the NYSC by-laws, which will guide them throughout their service year. He emphasized the importance of understanding the responsibilities that come with their roles, highlighting that their service transcends geographical boundaries.

The governor assured the corps members of the government’s commitment to their security and well-being. He also commended the NYSC management, stakeholders, and collaborating agencies for their dedication to the scheme’s core objectives.

“We shall continue to provide the needed support that will improve the scheme’s capacity to deliver on its mandate. While wishing you a successful, hitch-free, and rewarding orientation course, I enjoin you to shun all forms of vices and to actively participate in the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development training that will prepare you for economic development. May your experience in this orientation course be evolutionary and filled with personal growth and lasting friendships,” Governor Sule said.

Alhaji Abdullahi Jikamshi, the state NYSC Coordinator, praised the new corps members for their positive attitude since the orientation course began. He noted their enthusiasm and resilience, which have created a unified atmosphere conducive to a successful orientation.

“They have adjusted well enough to camp life. Their enthusiasm and resilience have created an atmosphere of unifying purpose which bodes well for a successful orientation course,” Jikamshi said.

Jikamshi urged the corps members to maintain their high level of discipline and enthusiasm, adhere to camp rules, respect authority, and actively participate in all activities. He highlighted the importance of cooperation in maintaining order and harmony essential for a successful orientation experience.

“Your cooperation is pivotal in maintaining order and harmony essential for a successful orientation experience. Therefore embrace the learning opportunities therein, forge meaningful connections, and let this period be a chapter of growth in your personal journey,” Jikamshi added.

He also expressed gratitude to the state government for its unwavering support to the NYSC in Nasarawa State, noting that this support has been instrumental in creating a conducive environment for the scheme’s success.

“We look forward to further collaborations in the spirit of nation-building,” Jikamshi concluded.
