NANS Urges Ondo Governor to Fulfill Promises of Palliatives and Student Buses

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, to fulfill his promises of providing palliatives and buses to student unions in the state. The leaders of the Joint Campus Council, Ondo axis, Comrades Oluwarotimi Tobiloba Joshua and Oluwanishola Ajibola, raised concerns over the governor’s unfulfilled commitments during a press briefing.

One of the key promises in question is the provision of 12 buses intended to improve student mobility across the state. The buses, they noted, have yet to be delivered, despite earlier assurances.

While the students expressed appreciation for the recent approval and disbursement of bursaries and scholarships to indigenous students, they emphasized the need for the state government to address other pressing challenges in higher institutions. Comrade Oluwarotimi specifically pointed to the economic strain caused by the fuel price hike, which has led to increased transportation and food costs, as well as ongoing electricity issues. He also urged the federal government to take action on the rising dollar exchange rate, which has exacerbated the situation.

Key concerns highlighted during the briefing included the unfulfilled promises of buses for student mobility, delayed distribution of palliatives, and recent tuition fee hikes across state institutions. The students appealed to Governor Aiyedatiwa to reconsider the fee increases and provide much-needed financial relief to students.

Representatives from various institutions attended the press conference, including Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Adekunle Ajasin University, and the Federal University of Technology, among others.
