Mohamed Salah Hints at Liverpool Exit: ‘It Could Be My Last Year

Mohamed Salah has dropped a significant hint about his future at Liverpool, stating that this season might be his last at Anfield. The 32-year-old Egyptian forward, whose current contract expires next summer, made the comments following Liverpool’s dominant 3-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Salah, who found the net in the clash, reflected on the match as if it could be his last appearance at United’s iconic stadium. “I was coming to the game, I was saying, ‘look, it could be the last time’,” Salah shared with Sky Sports. “Nobody in the club talked to me yet about contracts so I was just like, ‘OK, I play my last season and see at the end of the season’.”

Despite his uncertainty about the future, Salah emphasized his focus on football, stating, “I feel I am free to play football – we will see what happens next year.”

Liverpool’s manager, Arne Slot, responded to Salah’s remarks with caution, avoiding any definitive statements about contract negotiations. “It’s a lot of ‘if’,” Slot said. “At this moment, he is one of ours and I am really happy with him being one of ours and he played really well. I don’t talk about contracts from players but I can talk for hours about how Mo played today.”

Salah’s future has been a topic of speculation ever since Liverpool rejected a £150 million offer from Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad last September. Despite the uncertainty, Salah has continued to deliver on the pitch, scoring in each of Liverpool’s opening three games this season.

His performance at Old Trafford added to his remarkable record against Manchester United. Salah has now been involved in 17 of Liverpool’s last 23 Premier League goals against United, either scoring (11) or assisting (6). He also became the first player to score in five consecutive away games against Manchester United in Premier League history.

Liverpool’s victory over their rivals has pushed them to second place in the Premier League standings, trailing Manchester City only by goals scored. Reflecting on the match, Salah said, “A great result. Everyone knows the derby is important for the fans and the city. We need to carry on and if you want to fight for the league you have to win each game.”
