A mob vandalized a section of mobile telephone network operator MTN’s property in Festac Town, Lagos, on Monday. The incident was triggered by the network provider’s recent blocking of their SIM cards.
In a video obtained by Vanguard, MTN customers were seen protesting their displeasure over the SIM blockages. A group of youths then vandalized a section of the MTN office in Festac Town.
Simultaneously, hundreds of MTN customers in Osun State staged a protest at Dada Estate, where the service provider’s head office is located. Protesters claimed they had arrived as early as 6 a.m. to resolve issues related to their blocked SIM cards, which were affected due to National Identification Number (NIN) inconsistencies.
The protesters also blocked the Osogbo-Iwo Road, leading to the Oke-Fia area of the state capital, causing significant traffic disruptions and gridlock. The group, including elderly individuals, pregnant women, civil servants, and other affected customers, expressed visible anger over the lack of assistance from MTN workers.
