Miss Universe Nigeria Chidimma Adetshina Rejects “Pity Win” Claims

Newly-crowned Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidimma Adetshina, has denied accusations that her victory was the result of sympathy. Facing criticism after her win, Adetshina emphasized in an interview with Arise News that she worked hard for the title.

“A lot of people felt like it was a pity win. I don’t think so. I feel like I really worked so hard, coming from the South Africa journey,” Adetshina stated. Reflecting on her time in South Africa, she noted the 10 weeks spent in camp, asserting that she had a comparable experience to other contestants.

In August 2024, Adetshina withdrew from South Africa’s beauty pageant following allegations of fraud and identity theft involving her mother. After facing xenophobic backlash over her nationality, she accepted an invitation to participate in the Miss Universe Nigeria competition, where she eventually emerged victorious.
