Newly-crowned Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidimma Adetshina, has finally addressed the allegations of identity theft surrounding her. During an interview with Arise News, Adetshina firmly denied any wrongdoing.
“I did not steal anyone’s identity,” she stated, adding that she is awaiting the conclusion of the case before making further comments. “I’m just avoiding all those two things contradicting each other,” she explained, noting that the matter is still under legal review.
The controversy began when South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs accused Adetshina’s mother of fraud and identity theft during her time as a contestant in the Miss South Africa pageant. Adetshina, born in Soweto to a Nigerian father and a Mozambican mother, withdrew from the South African competition and later joined the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant, where she emerged victorious.
