The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has directed the formation of a committee to facilitate collaboration with the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities. This decision came during a meeting with the Executive Secretary of the Commission, James Lalu, in Abuja.
The committee aims to develop a framework for raising awareness about the rights and privileges of individuals with disabilities. Idris pledged the ministry’s support and resources to advance the commission’s mission of upholding the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities and combating discrimination.
Highlighting President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to social inclusion, Idris promised advocacy for the adoption of Disability laws by state governments. He emphasized the need to address the specific needs of individuals with disabilities to ensure the achievement of their goals and objectives.
Dr. James Lalu, the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, expressed readiness to collaborate with the ministry to promote awareness of disability rights. He underscored the importance of equal access to services for people with disabilities and highlighted their untapped potential for economic advancement.
