The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has issued a 14-day termination notice to the contractor responsible for the Abia section of the Enugu-Port Harcourt Highway due to non-performance. The decision came after an inspection revealed unsatisfactory progress at Ozuaku after the Imo bridge along the expressway.
According to the Director of Information, Olusola Abiola, the termination notice was directed by the minister following due process. Umahi emphasized that the government will no longer tolerate substandard work from contractors and that there will be consequences for poor performance.
The statement highlighted the ministry’s commitment to delivering quality highways to Nigerians and praised President Bola Tinubu for providing substantial resources for road infrastructure projects. Umahi expressed gratitude for the president’s sensitivity to road infrastructure needs and called for support for the Renewed Hope Agenda.
This latest directive marks the second time the minister has taken action against underperforming contractors since assuming office. Previously, he ordered the suspension of construction work at the Kaiama section of the East-West road in Bayelsa State and the Eleme-Onne section of the East-West Road in Rivers State due to complaints of shoddy work and the use of sub-standard materials, respectively.
