Minister of Power Claims 40% of Nigerians Enjoy 20 Hours of Daily Electricity

The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, claimed yesterday that over 40% of Nigerians now receive at least 20 hours of electricity daily. In a statement issued by his media aide, Bolaji Tunji, Adelabu attributed this improvement to revolutionary measures taken by the government, particularly under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to the minister, these efforts have raised Nigeria’s power generation to over 5,500 megawatts, a significant increase from the previous 4,000 megawatts. He noted that this achievement marks substantial progress toward stabilizing the country’s electricity supply, a key component of President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda aimed at driving economic growth and industrial development.

Adelabu highlighted that electricity reliability is crucial for industrialization, pointing to examples such as South Korea and China, where stable power has been instrumental in economic expansion. He emphasized the government’s commitment to further improving power supply to households, businesses, and institutions, with the goal of enhancing production and creating more jobs.

The minister also detailed ongoing efforts to boost Nigeria’s energy capacity, including the commissioning of the Zungeru hydroelectric power plant and the expansion of renewable energy initiatives like solar and wind projects.
