Daniil Medvedev ended his five-match losing streak against Jannik Sinner with a thrilling five-set victory to advance to the Wimbledon semi-finals for the second consecutive year. Medvedev, the Russian fifth seed, triumphed over world number one Sinner with a 6-7 (7-9) 6-4 7-6 (7-4) 2-6 6-3 win after an intense battle lasting more than four hours on Centre Court.
Italy’s Sinner had previously defeated Medvedev in their last five encounters, including the Australian Open final in January. However, Medvedev managed to avenge that loss with a resilient performance.
“I knew if I wanted to beat Jannik then I knew it was going to be a tough match,” said Medvedev. “I’m really happy to win, really happy with my game and looking forward.”
The 28-year-old Medvedev now sets his sights on a first appearance in the Wimbledon final. He will face either defending champion Carlos Alcaraz or Queen’s Club winner Tommy Paul in the semi-finals.
