Manchester United have reached an agreement to sell central defender Willy Kambwala to Villarreal for an initial fee of €5.5 million (£4.63 million), potentially rising to €11.5 million (£9.68 million) with add-ons.
The deal includes a buy-back option for United and a significant share of any future sell-on fee for the 19-year-old France youth international. Kambwala is expected to travel to Spain for a medical soon, with the transfer likely to be finalized in the coming days.
Kambwala, who rejected United’s latest contract offer, had one year remaining on his current deal. He made 10 appearances last season amid a central defensive injury crisis under manager Erik ten Hag. As United looks to bolster their squad and navigate Profit and Sustainability Rules, this sale of a homegrown player is seen as a pragmatic move.
