Manchester United Face Record Fee for Branthwaite Transfer

Manchester United may need to break the bank with a record-equalling transfer fee if they are to secure the services of Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton.

The 21-year-old centre-back, recently called up to the England squad, has caught the eye of United’s decision-makers, who view him as a key target for bolstering their defensive line. However, Everton are expected to put up a fierce resistance against any attempts to lure Branthwaite away from Goodison Park.

Branthwaite’s emergence as a top prospect has coincided with his breakthrough in the Premier League, following a successful loan stint at Dutch giants PSV in the previous season. His impressive performances have significantly raised his valuation, with reports suggesting that Everton have slapped an £80 million price tag on the defender.

If United were to meet Everton’s valuation, Branthwaite would command a fee matching the record set by Harry Maguire’s transfer to Old Trafford in 2019, making him one of the most expensive defenders in the world.

The Toffees are reportedly using Wesley Fofana’s £75 million move from Leicester to Chelsea as a benchmark in negotiations. It remains to be seen whether United are willing to meet Everton’s demands for Branthwaite’s signature, especially considering their recent defensive investments.

With Everton keen to balance their books and United eyeing defensive reinforcements, negotiations could prove challenging as both clubs seek to reach a mutually beneficial agreement.
