Manchester United’s defender Raphael Varane is poised to leave the club upon the expiration of his contract at the conclusion of the season. The 31-year-old Frenchman, who joined United from Real Madrid in July 2021 for an initial fee of approximately £34 million, has amassed 93 appearances during his tenure at Old Trafford.
Varane played a pivotal role in United’s Carabao Cup triumph in 2023 under the management of Erik ten Hag, aiding the team in securing victory over Newcastle United in the final. His decorated career includes three La Liga titles and four Champions League trophies with Real Madrid, in addition to winning the World Cup with France in 2018 before retiring from international football in February 2023.
The centre-back’s contributions to United have been marred by injury, with his recent absence dating back to a 4-3 defeat against Chelsea on 4th April. As United face the final stretch of their campaign, it remains uncertain if Varane will be fit for their remaining fixtures against Newcastle United and Brighton.
