Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag made headlines on Friday as he banned three media outlets from asking questions during his news conference. The Dutchman excluded representatives from the Sun, the Mirror, and the Manchester Evening News from participating in the press conference.
While journalists from the aforementioned outlets were present at the news conference, they had been informed in advance that they would not have the opportunity to pose questions to Ten Hag.
The decision comes in the wake of widespread criticism directed at United following their FA Cup semi-final victory over Coventry at Wembley. Despite initially leading 3-0 against the Championship side, United allowed Coventry to equalize, ultimately securing victory on penalties.
Ten Hag labeled the reaction to the game as “embarrassing” and “a disgrace,” reflecting the heightened scrutiny surrounding the club’s performance.
This is not the first instance of Ten Hag implementing such measures. Earlier this season, he banned journalists from four media outlets, citing a lack of right of reply to negative stories about the club.
