Manchester City Without Khadija Shaw for Crucial Champions League Qualifier Due to Visa Issue

Manchester City will be without their record-breaking striker, Khadija Shaw, for Wednesday’s Champions League qualifier against Paris FC after the club failed to submit her visa application in time. The match, kicking off at 17:45 BST, sees City without the Jamaica international, who was last season’s Women’s Super League (WSL) top scorer.

BBC Sport reports that City attempted to secure a late visa for the 27-year-old, but their request was denied. The club has expressed confidence that no further visa issues will occur in the future. Shaw, a key player for City, was instrumental in their second-place finish in the WSL last season, where they finished just behind Chelsea on goal difference.

This marks another challenge for Manchester City, who have struggled to reach the group stage of the Champions League for the past three seasons. The second leg of their qualifying tie against Paris FC will take place on Thursday, 26 September, with the winner advancing to the group stage.

Shaw, who joined City from Bordeaux in 2021, became the club’s all-time leading scorer earlier this year, netting her 68th goal in just 82 appearances. Following a standout 2023-24 season, she was named the WSL and Football Writers’ Association Player of the Season.
