Manchester City’s highly touted Argentine prospect, Claudio Echeverri, is set to delay his arrival at the Etihad Stadium as reports suggest he is on the verge of joining Girona on loan for the upcoming January transfer window. Echeverri, who was signed by City from River Plate during the January window, was initially expected to join the Premier League giants at the start of 2025. However, it appears that he will spend the first half of 2025 on loan at Girona before linking up with Manchester City ahead of the 2025-26 season.
The 18-year-old midfielder caught the eye of top European clubs with his standout performances for Argentina at the U17 World Cup, leading to City securing his signature amid competition from clubs like Barcelona. Often dubbed the ‘next Lionel Messi’ in his homeland, Echeverri has already made six senior league appearances for River Plate this season, showcasing his talent with a goal and an assist.
Despite his young age, Echeverri has also earned recognition at the international level, featuring six times for Argentina’s U23 side. He will be aiming to secure a spot in Javier Mascherano’s squad for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics, further enhancing his reputation on the global stage.
