California authorities confirmed the arrest of a man found with illegal firearms near a rally held by former President Donald Trump on Saturday. The suspect, identified as 49-year-old Vem Miller from Las Vegas, was stopped at a security checkpoint in Coachella Valley around 5 pm.
Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies, stationed near Avenue 52 and Celebration Drive, became suspicious after Miller’s black SUV approached the perimeter with irregularities, including a fake license plate. Upon searching the vehicle, they discovered a shotgun, a loaded handgun, and a high-capacity magazine, all in violation of state laws.
Miller was promptly arrested, and the investigation is ongoing. Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco, speaking at a press conference on Sunday, suggested that the swift action of his deputies may have prevented a potential assassination attempt.
“There were many irregularities that popped up,” Bianco explained, adding that his officers’ vigilance likely “stopped the third assassination attempt.”
