The Rivers State Police have apprehended a man identified as Michael Chidozie on suspicion of assaulting and strangling his wife, Mrs Ufuoma Eriera Chidozie, in their Mile 4 residence near Port Harcourt, the state capital.
Details surrounding the incident remain unclear, but it was reported that Mrs Chidozie, a mother of three boys aged 10, seven, and five respectively, from Delta State, tragically succumbed to injuries sustained during the assault in the early hours of Tuesday, March 5, 2024.
According to a source in the area who requested anonymity, the husband of the deceased purportedly contacted his late wife’s brother, alerting him to an emergency at their home. However, upon the brother’s arrival, he discovered the lifeless body of his sister and found no trace of the husband, who had reportedly fled the scene.
The couple had been experiencing marital issues before the tragic incident, with the husband allegedly confiding in close friends about their troubles.
The suspect was apprehended on Wednesday morning by the Agip Police Division in Mile 4, Port Harcourt, confirmed by the State Police Command’s spokesperson, Superintendent Grace Iringe-Koko. Iringe-Koko stated that the suspect is currently in custody and undergoing investigation at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Port Harcourt.
The deceased woman’s body has been deposited in the mortuary, pending an autopsy as part of the ongoing investigation before burial arrangements are made.
