Maduka Okoye Ready for Super Eagles Return After Exile

Maduka Okoye, the talented goalkeeper for Nigeria’s Super Eagles, has announced his eagerness to make a comeback to the national team fold after a period of self-imposed absence.

Okoye had withdrawn from international duty following intense criticism on social media following his performance at the Africa Cup of Nations 2021 in Cameroon. A notable error during a match against Tunisia resulted in Nigeria’s unfortunate 1-0 defeat in the second round of the tournament.

Now, with a resurgence in form at Udinese in Serie A, Okoye feels prepared to once again don the green and white jersey of Nigeria.

“I am very well now. I feel 100%. The national team is an important thing for me and I want to return as soon as possible. It was hard watching the AFCON from home, but this is football,” Okoye stated, as reported by OwnGoal Nigeria.

The goalkeeping position for the Super Eagles has been a subject of concern for Nigerian football enthusiasts since the retirement of Vincent Enyeama. However, with the emergence of promising talents like Stanley Nwabali and Okonkwo, coupled with Okoye’s resurgence, the competition for the number one spot has intensified.
