Liverpool Football Club is poised to commence negotiations with Feyenoord on Wednesday regarding manager Arne Slot as they accelerate their quest to find a successor for Jurgen Klopp.
Klopp, who announced his departure from Anfield in January, is set to conclude his tenure at the end of the season, prompting Liverpool to meticulously explore various potential candidates for the managerial role.
Arne Slot, who steered Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title in the 2022-23 season, has emerged as a frontrunner aligning with Liverpool’s criteria for a new manager.
Under Slot’s guidance, Feyenoord secured the Dutch Cup this season and currently occupy second place in the Eredivisie standings.
The 45-year-old tactician was previously linked with Leeds United following the dismissal of manager Jesse Marsch in February 2023. Slot then dispelled speculation surrounding his candidacy for the Tottenham Hotspur managerial position before Ange Postecoglou assumed the role.
Despite interest from other clubs, Slot extended his contract with Feyenoord until 2026, underscoring his commitment to the Rotterdam-based club.
Liverpool’s pursuit of Slot may require negotiations with Feyenoord to secure his services, as he does not possess a release clause for the current summer transfer window. While a release clause exists in his contract, it cannot be activated until the following year.
Slot’s attacking philosophy, coupled with his adeptness at player development, resonates with Liverpool’s managerial aspirations. His managerial acumen has also attracted interest from esteemed clubs like Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
Transitioning from a successful playing career, Slot embarked on his coaching journey as a youth coach at PEC Zwolle before assuming assistant managerial duties at SC Cambuur. He ascended to the managerial helm at AZ Alkmaar in 2019, guiding the team to a runner-up finish in his inaugural season before his tenure was curtailed.
Since assuming the managerial reins at Feyenoord in 2021, Slot has overseen 144 matches, tallying 93 victories, 27 draws, and 24 defeats. Notably, his accomplishments include clinching the Eredivisie title in 2022-23 and securing the Dutch Cup in the current campaign.
