Liverpool maintained their perfect start under new manager Arne Slot with a dominant 3-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford. The performance highlighted the stark contrast between the two sides, with Liverpool showcasing a level of control and precision that United, under Erik ten Hag, could not match.
Luis Diaz opened the scoring with a header from Mohamed Salah’s cross after Casemiro’s error in the 35th minute. Seven minutes later, Diaz doubled the lead, again capitalizing on Casemiro’s poor play. Salah added a third in the 56th minute, finishing from Dominik Szoboszlai’s pass.
United, who were desperate for a strong start to the season under Ten Hag after a tumultuous summer, struggled to create meaningful chances. Joshua Zirkzee’s efforts were among the few bright spots, but Liverpool’s defense, anchored by goalkeeper Alisson, held firm.
The defeat intensifies pressure on Ten Hag, whose summer review led to a contract extension despite doubts about his future. United’s lack of cohesion and quality was evident, with boos ringing out from the home crowd at halftime and full-time. Casemiro, once a linchpin for Real Madrid, was substituted at halftime after a dismal performance.
In contrast, Slot’s Liverpool continued to impress, adding a layer of control to the attacking prowess inherited from Jürgen Klopp. The result marked three consecutive Premier League wins without conceding a goal, with this victory being the most convincing yet.
