Liverpool Secure Federico Chiesa in £10m Transfer from Juventus

Liverpool have completed the signing of Juventus winger Federico Chiesa for a £10 million fee, with an additional £2.5 million in potential add-ons linked to team performance. The 26-year-old Italian international has signed a four-year deal, marking the first signing for Liverpool under new manager Arne Slot.

Chiesa, who was a key player in Italy’s Euro 2020 victory over England at Wembley, expressed his excitement about joining Liverpool. “I’m so happy to be a Liverpool player. When Richard Hughes called me and he said, ‘do you want to join Liverpool?’ – and the coach called me – I said yes immediately because I know the history of this club, I know what it represents to the fans,” Chiesa told the club website. “So, I’m so happy and I can’t wait to get started.”

Despite an impressive start at Juventus, where he was named in Serie A’s team of the year during his debut season, Chiesa’s form dipped following a serious knee injury in January 2022, which required surgery. Over his time at Juventus, he scored 32 goals in 131 appearances, including 10 goals in 37 matches last season.

With his contract at Juventus set to expire next summer, newly-appointed Juventus manager Thiago Motta left Chiesa out of the squad for the first two matches of the season, paving the way for his move to Anfield.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot had hinted at further summer signings, emphasizing the high standards required to join the club’s squad. Earlier this week, Liverpool also agreed to sign Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia for a deal worth up to £29 million, although he will not join until next season.
