Liverpool Eyes Alternatives as Xabi Alonso’s Managerial Decision Looms

Liverpool FC is actively considering alternative coaching options in case Xabi Alonso decides against taking the managerial reins this summer, according to reports.

While Xabi Alonso remains the primary target for Liverpool’s managerial position, the club has identified Ruben Amorim and Julian Nagelsmann as potential alternatives, as per The Telegraph. Amorim, 39, has garnered attention for his successful tenure at Sporting CP, rejuvenating the club’s title aspirations since his appointment in 2020. However, Liverpool may face challenges in acquiring his services due to his existing contract with Sporting CP, which extends until 2026.

On the other hand, Julian Nagelsmann, 36, emerges as an intriguing option for Liverpool. With his contract with the German Football Association set to conclude after the upcoming European Championship, Nagelsmann presents a more accessible choice for the club. Despite his departure from Bayern Munich under contentious circumstances, Nagelsmann’s coaching abilities continue to be highly esteemed at Liverpool. His managerial profile aligns with the club’s philosophy of identifying managers based on squad performance and financial considerations, reminiscent of their approach in hiring Jurgen Klopp in 2015.

Interestingly, Nagelsmann is also reportedly a “priority target” for Manchester United to replace Erik ten Hag, according to Sir Jim Ratcliffe. Should ten Hag be relieved of his duties at the end of the season, Nagelsmann remains a leading contender to succeed him at Old Trafford.
