Liverpool and Juventus Eye Atalanta Star Teun Koopmeiners in £50m Battle

As Liverpool prepares for life beyond Jurgen Klopp, who is set to depart as manager at the end of the season, the club is reportedly vying with Juventus for the signature of Atalanta’s standout midfielder, Teun Koopmeiners. With the Serie A outfit enjoying a stellar campaign, the 26-year-old has caught the attention of top European clubs.

According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus has intensified its interest in Koopmeiners, aiming to secure a long-term replacement for Paul Pogba, who faces a four-year ban. However, Liverpool sees the Dutch international as a key addition to bolster their midfield amidst the managerial transition.

With Klopp’s departure imminent, Liverpool is eyeing Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso as his successor. Adding Koopmeiners to their ranks would further strengthen their squad. Nevertheless, Atalanta values the midfielder between £43-51 million ($55m-$65m), given his contract extending until 2027.

Koopmeiners’ impressive statistics this season, boasting 12 goals and four assists in 33 appearances across all competitions, underscore his significance on the field. He stands out as one of the few midfielders to achieve double-digit goals over the past two seasons in Europe’s top five leagues, alongside Manchester City’s Phil Foden.
