Libyan Football Federation Deplores Nigeria’s Withdrawal from AFCON Qualifier, Vows Legal Action

The Libyan Football Federation (LFF) has expressed strong disapproval over Nigeria’s decision to withdraw from the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier. Nigeria’s Super Eagles pulled out of the match, scheduled for Tuesday, October 15, after being stranded for over 13 hours at Al Abaq Airport due to an unexpected flight diversion.

In a statement shared by The Libya Observer, the LFF accused the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) of non-cooperation in the organization of the match and vowed to take legal action to protect the interests of the Libyan national team.

“The Libyan Football Federation condemns the measures taken by the Nigerian Football Federation by refusing to play the Libya-Nigeria match,” the statement read. It emphasized that the LFF will pursue “all legal measures to preserve the interests of the Libyan national football team.”

The LFF also accused the NFF of failing to cooperate throughout the planning of both the first and second leg matches, adding that the events leading to Nigeria’s withdrawal were beyond their control and did not compare to challenges faced by the Libyan team during the first leg.

The federation concluded with an apology to Libyan football fans, attributing the match delays and confusion to the actions of the NFF, which it claims led to the match being called off.
