Lewandowski Fires Barcelona to Victory Over Sevilla, Restoring La Liga Lead

Robert Lewandowski continued his sensational form, netting twice as Barcelona cruised to a 5-1 victory over Sevilla, reclaiming their three-point lead at the top of La Liga. The 36-year-old striker now has 14 goals in 12 games across all competitions, including 10 in his last six outings.

Barcelona, led by Hansi Flick, responded emphatically to Real Madrid’s win against Celta Vigo, producing another dominant first-half display. Lewandowski opened the scoring with a 24th-minute penalty after Raphinha was brought down by minimal contact from Peque Fernandez. Four minutes later, Pedri doubled the lead with a stunning first-time strike from the edge of the box.

Lewandowski added his second just before halftime, finishing off Raphinha’s pass to make it 3-0. The Polish striker is now the joint-third all-time top scorer across Europe’s top five leagues, with 366 goals, level with Jimmy Greaves, and trailing only Cristiano Ronaldo (495) and Lionel Messi (496).

Sevilla found little joy against a youthful Barcelona side, which featured several players aged 21 or younger. Substitute Pablo Torre scored twice late in the game, sandwiching a consolation goal from Stanis Idumbo, who capitalized on Sevilla’s only shot on target.

Beyond the goals, Barcelona fans at the Olympic Stadium had another reason to cheer as Gavi made his return, receiving a warm reception nearly a year after suffering a torn ACL. The victory comes after Barcelona’s first defeat of the season, and they now prepare for crucial upcoming matches, hosting Bayern Munich in the Champions League before facing Real Madrid in La Liga.

Barcelona have won nine of their opening 10 league games, with Flick’s side maintaining their momentum heading into a pivotal week.
