Lebanon’s Health Minister, Firass Abiad, confirmed that nine people were killed and approximately 2,800 injured on Tuesday when pagers used by Hezbollah members exploded across the country. The victims included the 10-year-old daughter of a Hezbollah member and the son of Hezbollah lawmaker Ali Ammar. While earlier reports suggested the son of another lawmaker, Hassan Fadlallah, was killed, it was later confirmed that he survived but sustained injuries.
Most injuries were reported to the face, hands, and stomach, with around 200 people critically wounded, according to Minister Abiad.
The explosions also affected neighboring Syria, where 14 individuals were injured. Iran’s ambassador to Beirut was among the wounded in Lebanon, although his injuries were not considered severe, state media reported.
The cause of the blasts remains unclear, and when contacted, the Israeli military declined to comment.
