Lawmaker Urges Caution and Professionalism in Response to Killing of Soldiers in Delta State

Rodney Ambaiowei, a member of the House of Representatives representing Southern Ijaw Federal Constituency in Bayelsa State, has called for military authorities to exercise professionalism in response to the killing of 17 soldiers in Okuama community, Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State. The incident, which occurred last week, has prompted widespread condemnation and calls for investigation.

Addressing a news conference in Abuja, Ambaiowei emphasized the importance of caution and professionalism to prevent further escalation of violence and grave consequences. He expressed concern over reports of soldiers engaging in retaliatory attacks in Igbomotoru, within his constituency, following the killings in Okuama.

Ambaiowei condemned the senseless murder of the soldiers, including a Lieutenant Colonel, two majors, a captain, and 12 other men, describing it as one of the worst tragedies to befall the Nigerian military in recent times. He extended condolences to President Bola Tinubu, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the families of the fallen heroes, and the nation as a whole.

Drawing parallels to past incidents, such as the invasion of Odi in 1999, Ambaiowei urged the military to exercise caution in executing intelligence reports to minimize collateral damage to innocent civilians. He echoed the sentiments of President Tinubu, the National Assembly, and the Nigerian people in calling for the swift arrest of the perpetrators responsible for the soldiers’ deaths.

Furthermore, Ambaiowei appealed to the people of Igbomotoru and the entire Southern Ijaw Federal Constituency to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies. He urged parents to take decisive actions against unruly behavior among their children, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to maintain peace and security in the region.
