Late Collapse Spoils Messi’s Triumphant Return for Inter Miami

Lionel Messi made a triumphant return to action for Inter Miami, but his heroics were not enough to prevent a late collapse at home against the Colorado Rapids.

Even in a half-fit state, Messi’s presence on the field has a transformative effect on games. His return from injury after nearly a month sidelined injected hope and excitement into the Miami side.

Messi wasted no time in making his mark, scoring just 12 minutes into his comeback match. His goal seemed to set Miami on course for a crucial victory, especially after Leo Afonso doubled their lead shortly thereafter.

However, the Rapids mounted a late resurgence, capitalizing on Miami’s defensive lapses to snatch a late equalizer in the 88th minute through Cole Bassett’s finish.

While Messi’s return is a positive development for Miami, it also highlights the team’s overreliance on the Argentine maestro. Despite his individual brilliance, Miami’s overall performance still left much to be desired, particularly in defense.
