Lagos State Reintroduces Monthly Environmental Sanitation

Lagoss State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu inaugurated the re-introduction of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise campaign on Sunday, calling for the cooperation of all residents and stakeholders to ensure its success.
Speaking at the event held at Campus Square, Lagos Island, Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of the exercise, which aims to promote a clean and healthy environment, encourage community participation in waste management, and reduce the risk of disease outbreaks.
The governor also condemned the displacement of manholes and the demolition of government properties designed to prevent flooding and other environmental issues. He decried the hazards caused by congested drainages, stating, “Manholes installed at strategic locations have been removed and we see refuse being dumped on these drainages and a whole lot of them have been blocked.”
Sanwo-Olu warned against such destructive actions, saying, “This is completely unacceptable, and it is a shame on those that are doing it. They do not deserve to be amongst us. To destroy not only government properties but also manholes that will preserve and protect your environment from flood and environmental issues.”
He announced that the Ministries of Environment and Works and Infrastructure would be setting up enforcement gangs to address these issues, cautioning that those caught in such acts would face significant consequences.
